You were there
not in person, but I could feel you
I felt your anguish when you read my words
The panic that streamed through you heart made it all the way to my veins
You were scared
You knew you made a mistake
Once I typed out what I felt and clicked "post", I knew I was right
Once you read what appeared from my desktop to yours, you knew I was right
And you regretted your decision
Regret that filled your entire being
You raced, with your heart, to fix the hurt you created
My soundless words echoed in your mind
"And it tears me apart, I do not love you anymore"
I do not love you anymore
Like a child's game, "I said it first"
Yes, you did, but I said it last and I meant it more
Your fingers trembled on the keyboard
Stuttering
Like the words they were supposed to be typing
"I do love you. I do."
Post
Scrolling through pictures of happy times
You choose one
Upload
You sat still
Waited
No new messages
No new notifications
Just you
You alone in cyberspace
You alone in your room
You alone with your love
I saw it, I did
My heart leapt for a second until
I remembered
No, I do not love you anymore
And no, this isn't a child's game "I said it first"
Yes, you did, but I said it last and I meant it more
Are these song lyrics? I like the repeat of "I said it last and meant it more." I like that you've created a tangible moment even through abstract cyber terms.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this poem. I like how there's an emotional appeal rather than the typical physical appeal, and I can really sense the imagery. Good job!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is an amazing poem. I loved it - really I think I'm going to copy and paste and keep it. I love how you were able to capture the emotional tug of war that is love, especially immature teenage love that's too often facilitated by technology. "An no, this isn't a child's game 'I said it first' Yes, you did, but I said it last and I meant it more." That's so true...amazing, absolutely amazing...and I think I've used that word three times now, sorry.
ReplyDeletewow, thanks guys.
