Rhetorical Analysis Thesis Statement

"Alcohol Advertising: Are Our Kids Collateral or Intended Targets?" is an effective argument to convince parents and members of society to take more action against alcohol advertising because of its wide use of facts, effective word choice, and thought provoking statements to create a sense of seriousness and urgency.

  1. Good thesis. Word of caution- when writing about provoking statements, be careful not to point how specified words are what cause a certain statement to be thought provoking or you will end up generally using diction as a tool twice (this happen to be a problem I, myself, ran into). Otherwise, looks like it'll be pretty effective!

  2. I like your specific appeals of seriousness and urgency. I agree with McKaylee's suggestion to be careful what you call "thought-provoking statements"--do you mean rhetorical questions? Quotes from others? Adages? There may be something more specific you can call them so that it doesn't turn into using word choice twice.

Also, just be careful in the wording of your statement that everything makes logical sense. Let's look at the "its" in: "to convince parents and members of society to take more action against alcohol advertising because of its wide use . . ." is that "its" referring to the article or to alcohol advertising? Just make sure your referents are crystal clear.
