Week 5: You'll Be In My Heart

I am obsessed with the movie Tarzan. A little too obsessed. However, it is a great story line and the songs are sincerely touching. My favorite song in the movie and one of my favorite songs in general is “You’ll Be In My Heart” by Phil Collins. Every time I watch this part of the movie with this song, I cannot stop the tears from cascading down my face. The mother shows Tarzan how much love she has for him. What this song resembles to me is my family. I am truly blessed with an amazing, supporting, and loving family. They have always been there for me in times of need and weakness.

The words “this bond between us can’t be broken” resonate in my ear. It is just a simple sentence but means so much more. My relationship and special bond with my family cannot ever be broken because we are sealed for eternity. Nothing will ever change that. Another favorite part of mine is when he sings “when destiny calls you, you must be strong. I may not be with you, but you’ve got to hold on” . This hits home for me because it was hard to leave for college and say a short goodbye. I have to remember that I have to grow up, but growing up does not mean growing apart from my loved ones. They will always be right beside me when I need help and when the world sometimes does not understand me, they will.

My family is my everything: my strength, my own personal comedy club, a shoulder to cry on, and an endless pool of love. They have shaped me to be who I am, and this song explains it.

"You'll Be In My Heart"

Come stop your crying

It will be all right

Just take my hand Hold it tight

I will protect you

from all around you

I will be here

Don't you cry

For one so small,

you seem so strong

My arms will hold you,

keep you safe and warm

This bond between us

Can't be broken

I will be here

Don't you cry

'Cause you'll be in my heart

Yes, you'll be in my heart

From this day on

Now and forever more

You'll be in my heart

No matter what they say

You'll be here in my heart, always

Why can't they understand

the way we feel

They just don't trust

what they can't explain

I know we're different but,

deep inside us

We're not that different at all

And you'll be in my heart

Yes, you'll be in my heart

From this day on

Now and forever more

Don't listen to them

'Cause what do they know

We need each other,

to have, to hold

They'll see in time

I know

When destiny calls you

You must be strong

I may not be with you

But you've got to hold on

They'll see in time

I know

We'll show them together

'Cause you'll be in my heart

Yes, you'll be in my heart

From this day on,

Now and forever more

Oh, you'll be in my heart

No matter what they say

You'll be in my heart, always

Always

  4. I've always thought his voice sounds really weird...but good music nonetheless. That movie was awesome. The lyrics not only go really well with the movie, but they definitely work for real life families and friends.

  5. This is a time in our lives when it's important to keep our loved ones close to us even though they're far away. This song epitomizes that.

  7. This song is so good. My family is so important to me as well and I know I would not be where I am today without them. This song is a great "freshman year of college" song because even though we're away from our families, they are in our hearts and they are in ours.
