Week 5

I am the type of person who loves movies. I have seen many and some were definitely better than others. There is one movie that I watched just a couple months ago that really influenced me. This movie is called November Christmas. Obviously, I saw this movie around Christmas time, and we all know that many of these movies have a touching story line. This movie is no different. The movie is about a family and a community who rally around a sick little girl to give her the best possible few months ever. The parents of the girl don't want her to miss out on anything in her childhood. So, before she has to go back to the hospital they try to celebrate all of the major holidays. (Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.) In the beginning of the movie it is only the parents who know the situation but in the end the entire community is doing everything they can to help this little girl see these holidays. They end up celebrating all of these holidays months in advance and Christmas happens in November, hence the title. While this moving seems like just another feel good movie it really helped me to look around to see who needed help around me. If the members of the community had not been willing to keep their eyes open to what was going on around them the little girl may not have been able to celebrate these holidays. I have not had any experiences this extreme and probably will not experience one in my life, but who said that somebody around us needs to be seriously ill in order for us to help them. I have noticed in myself that I look out for people more, and that I am more willing to help others in their times of need. Even if it just a simple note or conversation that helps somebody through a tough day, it is making that day better than it otherwise would have been. This is a movie that has shaped me and I believe will continue to shape me in a way that helps not only others, but also me. When I step up and help somebody else out I find that my day also seems to go better. This is a movie and lesson that I will always remember.

  1. I would think that the little girl had celebrated the holidays in the previous years of her life, right? That is a confusing part of the storyline, in my opinion. However, the whole feel-good message of helping others is so sweet!! It's true, just because they're sick doesn't mean they don't want to be treated nicely while they're not sick. It's kind of sad if people are not loved when they are well, but only when they're in some kind of pitiful situation. It can almost be as bad as if one was sick.
