Week 5: You'll Be In My Heart

I absolutely love musicals. I know the music from pretty much every one, and I have seen quite a few. I saw Aida and The Phantom of the Opera in New York. I saw Les Miserables in London. I’ve seen the traveling Broadway perform Annie, Tarzan, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. I love the music. My favorite song from a musical is “You’ll Be In My Heart” from Tarzan. Ever since the first time I heard it, the song has been kind of inspiring to me. My favorite part of the song is the bridge. It says:

Don’t listen to them,
For what do they know?
We need each other
To have, to hold
They’ll see in time
I know.

When I was younger I had quite an issue with bullies. I don’t know why, but for some reason people just loved to pick on me. I would go home after school and my mama would just hold me while I cried. While she held me she would sing this song to me and I would always feel so much better.
I mostly love the song because it has the ability to just fill you with peace. No matter what you are going through, the song can apply to the situation and just kind of lift you up. So if you’re ever having a bad day, listen to the song. Listen to the version by Phil Collins. It is the original and truly amazing.

  1. I love Phil Collins so much. The craziest thing about him is I have an uncle who looks just like him! haha

  2. I also love this song. My family went out and bought the soundtrack after we saw the movie, and I used to listen to this song every night before I went to bed. It is truly a comforting song. That is so sweet that your mom used to sing that to you. I like when it talks about just stop crying, it will be alright.

  4. I absolutely agree! This song has always been one of my favorites; it's inspired. Whenever I'm deeply upset I can count on this song to comfort me and assuage any pain. I loved the personal application you shared too because it made the song so much more touching and real. Beautiful.
