These lyrics have a lot of meaning in them that isn't first recognized when just listening to the song. I know that when I listen to the song, I just bask in the beauty of her voice and her feeling behind her voice, and really don't even recognize what is being said. I think that the most important thing to recognize when reading these lyrics, is the wide range of audience that she seems to be grasping with here many different interpretations of love. However, all these interpretations lead back to one main idea, which is that love can be painful, but all its benefits can outweigh that pain in the end, if we only wait and stay patient.
The tools that this song uses are comparisons, such as similes, to get across the meaning of the words. My favorite simile that was used is "some say love, it is a hunger, and endless aching need." I really like this because everybody can relate to it. Everybody in this world has experienced hunger, although some more than others, and they know that being hungry never brings happiness. The first part of this song sounds really hopeless in saying that love is basically a necessity of life, and if you don't have it for a long enough time, you basically die. If this was all the song was about, I wouldn't like it. However, the lyrics go on to say, "I say love, it is a flower, and You its only seed." These words are really powerful in changing the tone of these lyrics because it shows that love is not hopeless, as long as we learn to have courage.
The words that are used in this song are also very powerful, because they are words that create a lot of good imagery. Words like "razor", "bleed", and "soul". These words are useful in bringing out the meaning of the song because they allow the reader to imagine these images in a very vivid way. Also, most of these images are very real to the readers, and something that they can relate to. It is important to have these images because the point of most songs is to draw attention to anyone who will listen from all different types of crowds. I think that a very important aspect of this song is that they can relate to many different kinds of people, rather than just one certain group.
I LOVE this song! It makes me want to cry every time! I don't know why! You did a good job making the song seem so real! I loved your description and analysis! Good job! :)
