"Who am I" by Casting Crowns
Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt.
Who am I?
That the bright and morning star,
Would choose to light the way,
For my ever wandering heart.
Bridge:
Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.
Chorus:
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.
I am yours.
Who am I?
That the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love
And watch me rise again.
Who am I?
That the voice that calmed the sea,
Would call out through the rain,
And calm the storm in me.
Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.
Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.
I am yours.
I am yours.
Whom shall I fear
Whom shall I fear
Cause I am yours..
I am yours..
If you haven't heard this song before take a second and do so now. It will make what I am trying to say so much more meaningful. I think we can all find some common ground while listening to this song. However, what does it mean in detail? What is "a flower quickly fading?" What does it mean to be "here today and gone tomorrow?" A flower generally represents something soft and fragile. With the right care it can become one of the most amazing sights this world has to offer. If it is fading quickly then it is not getting the nourishment it needs. Therefore, the song tells of a man who is vulnerable and who is not doing well in life. He knows that this life is short, and he knows that he needs help to reach his potential. What can he do? He understands that it is not about what he has done, but that it is what Christ has done for him. The mercy that Jesus is willing to show him is evident. After he realizes what was done he asks who am I that this would be done for me. He recognizes that it was not done because who he was, but because of who Christ is. It is only then that he learns who he is. Only then that we understand what significance we bear. It is now that I understand that "I am yours..."
Wow... that's all I can say! I've never heard this song before, but it really touched me! Your description added a powerful touch! It made the song seem so much more meaningful to have the description with the song! Excellent Job! :)
