The Internet
The Internet is a tool that is often abused and used excessively. However, the Internet is also a valuable research tool and source of information used in everyday life. Students use it on a regular basis to complete homework assignment, study, and keep in contact with friends and family. Businesses and corporations use it as they complete market research, search for future employees, and research new products and management techniques. Mothers use it as they look up new recipes, search for remedies for common ailments, and check out the week’s sales at the local supermarket. Stockholders use it as they search for financial statements on businesses, and review the latest rises or drops in the stock market. Pharmacists access the Internet to research drugs and reactions that may occur among various medications . Real estate agents use the Internet to post listing and to search for properties and homes for their clients. Stores use it to create websites and to generate more money through online shopping. As you can see, the Internet is used by virtually everyone in completing both everyday tasks and responsibilities associated with their careers or roles in society. Whether you are a student, or a lawyer, the Internet is a useful tool. Think about your day. What do you use the Internet for? Personally, when I start my day, getting on the Internet is one of the first things I do. I get online and check the daily weather report so I know how to get dressed. As students at Brigham Young University we check our e-mails, register for classes, apply for scholarships, search for jobs, check our bank statement, use Mapquest to get directions to wherever we may need to go, etc. We also often use the Internet to purchase things. Think about the last thing you bought. Did you purchase it at a store or online? Think about the last time you tried to sell something. Where did you advertise? The Internet has revolutionized our lives and has led to significant advancements in our society. Life without it wouldn’t be impossible, but it would be difficult.

I abuse the internet here at school, not gonna lie. haha I LOVE buying and selling things online and staying in touch with friends and family back home. The Internet is such a blessing in my life and it keeps me connected. Without it, yes, life would be tough but that is only because the world is moving towards an internet based direction. It isn't our fault.
ReplyDeleteThe internet has so many negatives and positives, I am not even sure myself as to what I believe is more important here. I just think that as long as we don't abuse the internet in any way (which can often be hard to control) it is really an extremely important part of the building of our society.
ReplyDeleteThe internet is such a blessings!! I love skype it saves me when i'm missing home. However, I did hear a scary figure the other day. In the states I think it was 3 billion dollars is spent yearly on internet porn!!! My professor compared this to being more money made in the NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA combined..... Pretty disgusting right. We have starving children everywhere, yet americans are spending this much money on one gross attribute of the internet.
