I remember the first time my dad taught me to cook steak out on the grill. I was 14 and on top of the world. I was learning how to create the masterpiece that I absolutely loved. My first few tries were a bit....well....we'll just say bad, but eventually I had mastered the art. I had impressed many boys with my steak cooking skills. I knew what made a steak taste good, so I knew exactly what to do to get it there.
So what makes a great steak? Well you have to make sure most of the steak is cut perpendicular to the muscle fibers (Wikipedia), because that is just how it's supposed to be done. The steak has to be juicy with still some pink meat in the middle. If it's brown all the way through, you're not eating steak anymore. It has to have the right seasoning and it has to make your mouth water in between bites.
I like steak too, although I can't eat very much of it a time. Also, I am one of those people you would probably hate because I like mine browned all the way through; however, like I said in my blog post, its all about the texture. I can't stand the texture of steak when it is not cooked long enough...its just too mushy. I'm glad there are people out there that can enjoy it though :) Nice post!
ReplyDeleteI would be interested to know more of those first few steak-cooking attempts . . . were you disappointed? Did you get people to eat them? Did you end up eating them?
ReplyDeleteSteak is soooo good! For prom, I forgot the different kinds of way to cook it, so I just said rare, but it was disgusting! Medium cooked is where it's at. I bet I would also be impressed by your steak cooking skills. I wonder if steak is hard to cook. Hmmm, sounds really good right now. It was interesting how you implemented your research into this, it was educational!
