Soccer - the REAL futbol
If you were to ask every U.S. citizen what their favorite sport was the majority would probably say football. Its become the most popular sport in our nation followed by baseball and probably basketball. But where is the love for soccer my friends?! Because I guarentee if you asked everybody in the entire world what their favorite sport was, the vast majority of people would say soccer (or futbol or whatever others ways there is to say it in different languages). Where did the U.S. go wrong? I mean I'm all for the U.S. being unique from the rest of the world but come on we have to get our sports right! I'm not gonna lie I love all sports and I love watching football and basketball, but when it takes 4 hours to complete a 1 hour game that actually only involves no more than 15 minutes of time when the ball is in play, that slightly rediculous. The best way to watch a football game is with a DVR with which you can fast forward through the commercials that come on every 4 plays (unless its the super bowl then its sometimes worth the 4 hours!). I know I'm not going to get all of you to like soccer more than your own favorite sports but all I can ask is that you give soccer a chance. It's a great game! There are no commercials, a 15 minute half time, and two 45 minutes of uninterupted magic. Soccer players are some of the best and most fit athletes in the entire world. And ladies, dont lie you know you like yourself a goodlookin soccer player! When a soccer player has the ball at his or her feet it is a beautiful thing to watch. Just watching Cristiano Ronaldo (one of the worlds best soccer players) work with the ball is absolutely amazing. I've played soccer ever since I was 3 and I've loved every minute of it and I bet that if you came out to one of the BYU men's soccer games this spring you would love it too.

I've never been a soccer guy until after last summers World Cup. I was in Mexico during that time and it was crazy. So sick to see how passionate other countries are about their futbol.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite moment of the entire summer was watching the United States v. Algeria World Cup Match. I don't think I have every gotten emotional about a soccer match before, but I went crazy when Landon Donovan scored. Soccer is a beautiful game, it just stinks when you watch an entire game and nobody scores. That is probably the only thing keeping me from seriously jumping on the band wagon.
ReplyDeleteI will admit that football is my favorite sport to play and watch, but there is nothing more nail-biting or exciting as a close World Cup match. There seems to be a passion that a lot of other sports can't match. Pretty much everyone in my family played soccer except me, and while it may not be my favorite to watch on a day-to-day basis, I can get into it when the time is right.
