1.) LDS students disobeying prophet/Honor Code agreement while maintaining an ecclesiastical endorsement (i.e. having Bishop's "O.K." when you are not honest or obedient).
2.)Grooming--are well maintained beards really "unclean" looking, as opposed to creepy mustaches? Giving more facial hair rights, or taking away mustaches? Also, talking about the enforcing or lack thereof for this rule.
1. I have seen well-written papers that are calls to standard/integrity; this topic has promise though I'd need to see more of your plan to be sure.
ReplyDelete2. The beard issue is about as tired as parking (if I had a chalkboard handy I'd draw an unhappy face next to it). However, discussing the enforcement (or lack thereof) of all honor code rules could be interesting. Who is responsible for calling students out--teachers, roommates? Should honor code followers be responsible for themselves? Should we set up more ways to police people or trust them to self-regulate their following of the honor code?
I think you should do the first one. Maybe, if your second idea can tie into the first, you can do both, sort of. You could write about wearing beards when you're not supposed to.
ReplyDeleteThe enforcement of the honor code sounds like a great idea! I kinda wish teachers would get students in trouble for dress code violations, like in high school, to discourage the violations. Also, since some violations are smaller than others, perhaps there should be some step-by-step disciplinary system for dress code violations, etc, like in high school, aside from the extreme disciplinary actions for the major violations. Yet, this is like more government meaning more taxes, or more faculty to deal with the reports/discipline meaning higher tuition.
