Week 3: What I Love

My dog’s name is Luke Skywalker. I got him just over a year ago, in October of 2009. My girlfriend was actually visiting in town for homecoming, and we had gone out to the fair for the morning. I had wanted a dog for months; years even, since my old one died. My parents made me believe I’d never get another one. Then, suddenly, I got a picture message from my little brother showing my mom with the tiniest, most adorable little puppy I have ever seen, along with the text “We adopted him.” Jaw drop. It was hard to believe. When they came home with the puppy, and let him run rampant around the house, I just about died. He is a little beagle/dachshund mix and is the cutest dog ever. He was running around howling his baby beagle howl, running so fast that his but would swing around to the front and send him spinning across the wooden floor in a mass of fuzz and paws. Ever since the first day I spent with him, he has slept on my lap every single day at some point. He is no longer “allowed” on the couch, since he has grown up, and it takes some coaxing for other family members to get him up on the couch. But, every time I sit down on it, he jumps up on my lap then lays on me and sleeps, or sits up like a human and watches TV with me. I love my dog. He is so cute, and so lovable. The only emotions dogs really ever feel are fear and love, and the owner decides which they feel. And he has certainly been filled with love since day one. I’m actually going home tonight on the red eye flight to finish my mission papers, and I am more excited to see Luke than my whole family combined. I love that dog. We are going to hang out all weekend and watch TV, play tug of war, run laps in the yard till I collapse in exhaustion and he gets his second wind, or just sit on the couch while I pet him and he lays his head on my lap.

  1. Okay, that first picture is utterly convincing. That and his name.

  2. Cute! The first picture is cute. When my dog's puppies laid like that they looked like a bear (they're yellow labs). That's funny that you said when he gets his second wind. When my dog gets excited she runs around the yard like 3 laps, even with no one chasing her. That's sad you went so long without a dog. When my first dog died, I felt sad until we got another one shortly after, then I felt better. It's like a weird hole was missing. So, I'm glad you got to get another dog. :)

  3. I love that dog! The name and the pictures, and the description of him! I wish I had a dog that slept on my lap. Also, I love the way they surprised him for you!

  4. I know exactly how you feel. I have a boxer who is going to be 6 in a couple months and I love him to death. He is practically my dog even though the rest of my family would claim ownership. I was the one who chose his name, Cooper, and i was the one who trained him to come, sit, lay, and shake. He is getting kinda old for a boxer since they only live to about 9 years old but he still acts like a little puppy. I love going home and seeing him waiting for me in the driveway like he always does when he hears a car coming and then to see how exited he gets when roll my window down and yell his name. He get so excited he starts running back and forth not knowing exactly what to do until I finally get out og the car. Now that I think of it I should have written my blog post about him.

  5. Aww... This made me miss Sasha. Luke is truly adorable, though. I didn't think this really was the case, but it looks like you really do have more empathy toward Luke than people! Kidding, of course, but he seems like an awesome dog. Though, I am a cat person...
