(Week 5)- Child of Light

When I was a Jr. in high school, a couple of my friends and I flew to India for a month to work as English teachers and nurses in multiple leprosy colonies across southern India. That experience was one of the most life changing I have ever, and believe will ever, have in my entire life. I was given so much more than I could have ever hope to give to the people of India. The love and devotion I learned to incorporate in my life as a result of that experience is something I learned from witnessing their (the leprosy infected people of India) trials and pain in this life.

The lyrics below are the lyrics to a song called “Child of Light” by Mindy Glendhill. It’s a song that I was initially unaware was on my iPod and to this day have no idea how it got there. I happened to have my iPod on shuffle on the plane ride home from India when I came across this song. The lyrics of this song so honestly and lovingly represent what I learned and what I felt while I was in India. It has since been something that reminds me at all times of the experience I had while I was out there. It reminds me that there is always hope in this life and that we find strength often in the most unusual places- “Even in the deepest darkest night, The Torch is raised to the sky. Most importantly though, it reminds me of how much our heavenly father loves and supports us and that we should never doubt his existence or abilities for they play an important role in our lives- “ You will never ever stand alone, You were never called to bare your burdens on your own.” When I hear this song I know I have a purpose in this life and it gives me the courage and the desire to pursue that purpose at all times, in all things, and in all places- “You were born to keep it burning bright, You were made to fly you were meant to shine.

Did you ever wonder who you are
do your ever wonder as you stare into the stars
Where you began
And how you got this far
from home?

Have you ever walked along the shore
Have you ever seen the water dancing back and forth
Did you look inside
To see if there was more to life

There’s a dream taking wings
There’s a voice that wants to sing
Even in the deepest darkest night
The Torch is raised to the sky
There are hands that hold it high
You were born to keep it burning bright
You were made to fly you were meant to shine
Child of light

You will never ever stand alone
You were never called to bare your burdens on your own
Where there’s fear
Love will take control
And lead you on

There’s a dream taking wings
There’s a voice that wants to sing
Even in the deepest darkest night
The Torch is raised to the sky
There are hands that hold it high
You were born to keep it burning bright
You were made to fly you were meant to shine
Child of light

There’s a dream taking wings
There’s a voice that wants to sing
Even in the deepest darkest night
The Torch is raised to the sky
There are hands that hold it high
You were born to keep it burning bright
You were made to fly you were meant to shine
Child of light

  1. I just got the shivers reading this song. I really like it and the meaning of it. It is a great motivational song, and I can see how it has influenced you. It shows how important each of us are and that we are all children of God whom loves us and is always there for us.

  2. What a fascinating experience you were able to have in India. That truly is extraordinary and I can see how it would be life changing. Any song that reminds of you Heavenly Father is definitely one to keep on the ipod. Great song!
