Discombuberated?

Without a doubt my favorite word is discombuberated. Is it actually a word? I'm not really sure. If you type it in google, a definition will come up from Urban Dictionary. But if you look it up in the Mirriam Webster Dictionary, it's not there. But who really cares if it is a word? Say it out loud and feel the way it rolls of your tongue.

My grandma is a very silly old lady. She likes making up new names and calling me George. One day I was making a blanket with her and she said the word discombuberated. I could not figure out what she meant! She told me it was her favorite word and ever since then it has been mine too.

But how can you not love it? It sounds amazing. It can mean anything you want. If you are tired and a little confused, what word would describe you? Discombuberated! If you're being hyper and silly, you are discombuberated! If you are happy in love or mad at the world, discombuberated!

If the word discombuberated had a smell, it would be whatever I want. If I'm craving cinnamon sugar pretzels, that is how the word would smell. If I'm in a bad mood, the word would smell like lavender. Yuck!

Whether or not discombuberated is actually a word, you can't deny it's a good one. What word could possibly be better than a word that can be used to describe or mean anything?

  2. I totally agree with this post. We should just have every word mean everything. You could pick one word and only say that one. "Your hungy?" Don't waste your breath spelling out that long dragged on sentence, just say discombuberated and I'll know what you mean.

  4. This is such a neat word. I've heard it before as well and I've always wondered if it was really a word. And even if it isn't a word if people use it enough I'm sure it will be added to the dictionary! It is also neat how sentiments can be attached to certain words.

  5. I'm not going to lie. I really like this word. I am definitely going to use it sometime. I love how grandparents will say funny things like that.

  6. Amazing word! Really, I loved it. I also enjoyed the anecdote about your silly grandmother. That's so cute :) My grandma helps me find new words all the time - she's the only one who can beat me at Scrabble. Your last couple of sentences were the best though. Because you're right; the best words are ones that can be used in a wide variety of situations and get you weird looks while you're at it lol.

  7. It's a splendiferous word and it was used in the very beginning of Episode 33 of the original Twilight Zone series.

    1. That's why I'm here looking it up, because I was just watching episode 33 of the twilight zone and i was discombobulated from hearing a word that sounded like discombobulated but certainly wasn't. I didn't know if it was a mistake or if that's how discombobulated used to be said so I looked it up and was discombuberated when I saw someone else noticed it's use in the twilight zone!
