Week 3 - Hawaii

If you have not been to Hawaii, let me just tell you that you're missing out big time. Hawaii is quite possibly the most amazing, tropical place in all of the United States territory. Its variety of islands adds to its unique nature and its diversity - Maui is lush and beautiful, while Oahu holds fabulous tourist attractions.

Last Spring Break, my family and I visited both islands. During our Oahu visit, we had the marvelous opportunity of going to the Polynesian Cultural Center, which I think is an absolute MUST for everyone who visits. Being that history is my least favorite subject matter, I wasn't too thrilled about going to the PCC at first. Once I got there, however, the history, culture, and spirit of Hawaii radiated so strongly, I found it difficult to be bored. Not only do you get to learn about the ancient Hawaiians, but also the many Polynesian cultures, hence the name of the place. Anyone who decides to venture to the Polynesian Cultural Center won't regret it; they will experience a unique encounter with Oahu that they will never forget.

Maui, on the other hand, is absolutely beautiful and lush; surely, it is the most beautiful place I have ever visited. Its foliage is deeply and attractively green and its native Hibiscus and Plumeria flowers are phenomenal. The beaches are characterized by powdery, white sand and ocean water with multiple shades of turquoise and sapphire. If that isn't heaven on earth, then I don't know what is. One significant benefit of Maui is that it has perfectly sunny weather most of the time; even when it does rain, the scent of the tropical storms is unbelievably soothing.

It truly is like a different world in Hawaii. In my personal opinion, Hawaii is definitely the best, most relieving vacation spot in the United States. I haven't really been anywhere outside the US, other than Canada and Mexico; thus, I can't exactly say that Hawaii is the best place in the entire world, due to my ignorance of other vacation spots worldwide. Just imagine if BYU did have a spring break - where would you choose to go? I can assure you that, now that you've read this blog post, Hawaii will be the first place to come to your mind!

  2. You are so lucky, I have never been to Hawaii. I did live in Western Washington though and it is really green and lush but our beaches are not very happy places. They are cold and the sand is coarse but Hawaii sounds amazing. Traveling is the best. I have been to Poland and the Czech Republic before so maybe on my next excursion I can go to Hawaii, sounds like a blast.

  3. I totally agree with you! Having lived there for 8 years I know exactly how you feel! Hawaii is the most unique and beautiful place I have ever been. The PCC is one of my favorite places to go! I loved your accurate description of the beaches as well! I only went to Maui once, but I was amazed by its beauty! Your description made me quite homesick! But I loved it all the same! Excellent job!

  4. I absolutely love Hawaii. My family loves to travel. Seriously, I've been all over the world. But Hawaii was one of my favorites for the same reasons as you. I love how you were able to put it into words though. I don't think I would have been able to describe the beauty and serenity quite as accurately as you did. Awesome writing. :)

  5. Both my parents were fortunate enough to spend considerable time in Hawaii before they were married. My dad visited his sister who lived there and my mom played tennis for the BYU-Hawaii team. Unfortunately, since they've been married, they've never gone back. This is due to my mother's dislike of islands and hot weather. So, Brittany, I have always wanted to visit Hawaii and your post has made me even more excited to go!
