When it comes to having strong opinions, I often am at a loss about what to say. I’d like to consider myself a pretty “chill” person. Not much really fazes me. Not that I am insensitive, I just don’t enjoy holding grudges or worrying about something that I can’t change. It is the things that I can change that I normally try to worry about. As nerdy as it sounds, I normally worry about things like getting good grades in my classes, or trying to be really outgoing so that I can makes friends in all my classes. However, there is one thing that I really do worry about a lot that I can’t change: reckless drivers.
Now, there is a difference between a bad driver and a reckless driver. Bad drivers don’t know how to park in a parking spot sand sometimes have to back in and out several times before they get it right. I often can be a really bad driver; I’ll admit it right now. Reckless drivers, on the other hand, speed around parking lots full of cars in the middle of a school day with no particular reason but to “show off.” Sorry reckless drivers, but there are very few people on this campus who even think that is remotely cool. There really isn’t any time of day here at BYU where students aren’t crossing the crosswalks; however most people drive around like there is never anybody at the crosswalks. Hello?!?!? What happened to pedestrians having the right-of-way? It makes me think that those who are driving around reckless are almost asking for something to happen. It almost seems like they want to crash and burn and go into the hospital for months instead of school. It almost seems like they want to run somebody over because they are running red lights right and left. Why would anybody ever want to do that? I hardly think that is what is running through their minds, but then it makes me wonder; if that is not what they are thinking, then what ARE they thinking? Absolutely nothing.
Overall, I would rather be alive, and I think everybody else would do. I think our world would be a much better place if everybody learned how to be a patient, thoughtful driver, who thought more about others than about themselves. So next time you are on the road, think about how many people there are out in the world, and if you would rather be safe, or sorry.
I hate when you have one of those drivers who are coming to a red light but they wait till the last second to put on their breaks! So the whole time your freaking out wondering if they're actually going to stop!
ReplyDeleteLet me just remind you of one thing... we are in Utah. Enough said really. Here I honestly believe no one understands how to drive. Have you noticed everyone speeds out of parking lots like horses out of the gate? The people here are crazy behind the wheel. Go to Washington and you may never have to worry about reckless drivers again. =D
ReplyDeleteI'm from Washington..haha! So I know exactly what you mean! I think it would be interesting to look up statistics about death rates from car crashes in Washington vs Utah.
ReplyDeleteAmen is all I have to say! You got right to the heart of the problem with reckless drivers! Showing off is all they are aiming at! It's ridiculous! And to the comments above, I say Amen again! I've been around the whole U.S and Utah is ranked very high in some of the most reckless drivers in the U.S. (The East Coast is pretty bad too though :)) Anyway excellent job describing! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha it's so true, we are in Utah. There are naturally so many reckless drivers here. I don't know how many times I have driven on I-15 and people think they can just cut me off, without blinkers, and like 2 inches in front of me. It's definitely a different driving experience than in my hometown, San Antonio. A lot of times, I feel like I'm a bad driver. But I like that you distinguished between bad drivers and reckless drivers :)
